The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released Standard of Learning (SOL) pass rate data on Aug. 27. The overall SOL pass rates for Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) exceeded the state pass rates in all subject areas.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools Music Education Program Receives National Recognition for 16th Year

For the 16th time, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation. Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) values and promotes active engagement of the community in all our schools. The Office of Family and Community Engagement coordinates many volunteer opportunities for community members to interact and contribute to the academic achievement of our students and the overall continuous improvement of VBCPS.

2025-26 federal grant information presented to Virginia Beach School Board

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 13 meeting. For the 2025-26 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $21.6 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

Digital Design and Marketing

VBCPS: 3 credits per year, 2 years

This two-year program helps students develop the skills and learn the principles involved in advertising design. Students learn the development and function of advertising, the production processes involved and how to cross technical and visual boundaries by using the elements of graphic design and computer graphic arts. Elements covered are illustration, typography, photography, digital video, computer graphics, web design, 3-D design and creation, animation and designing for mobile devices and electronic distribution. Students will prepare for the Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) certification exams and the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) assessment in Advertising Design.

Hospitality & Tourism Management

2-year program @ The ATC & Local Hotels

TCC: DUAL ENROLLMENT REQUIRED

Learn to help others explore and experience the cultures and cuisines of the world. If you are interested in the opportunity to travel and break new ground in an industry where talent is rewarded, and where no day is the same, then this is the program for you. Opportunity will exist to earn relevant industry-recognized certifications.

Marketing and Entrepreneurship @ ATC

2-year program

This exciting program explores marketing, entrepreneurship and professional success. Students will work with local businesses, entrepreneurs and mentors as they explore the skills needed to pursue a career in marketing or launch their own business! Topics of study include social media marketing, leadership, team productivity, business plan development, financial strategies and project management. Students will actively participate in DECA where membership offers travel, scholarships and networking. Students will also prepare to take national certification exams in March. A total of three credits may be earned by working in a part-time job. (Co-op).
